We went to Stanford today just to get out of the house.\u00a0 My kids have been to the campus a lot (annual summer \u201csplash\u201d sessions), but I never have.\u00a0 I\u2019ve only gotten as far as \u201cThe Loop,\u201d the drop-off spot at the front of the campus\u2026 to drop off my kids, and to the stadium to watch a couple of football games.\u00a0 I guess I\u2019ve also been to Stanford Mall, but that\u2019s not really part of the campus.\u00a0 Today, we would walk the rather large campus and also visit the art museum.<\/p>\n
We started at the Cantor Museum, which is Stanford\u2019s (free) museum.\u00a0 It\u2019s a great little museum with some major works including a whole Rodin sculpture garden.\u00a0 One room had art on loan from the SFMOMA (under construction) including one of 17 versions of Duchamp\u2019s \u201cFountain\u201d (a urinal on its side with R. Mutt painted on it).\u00a0 I much prefer his \u201cNude Descending a Staircase.\u201d\u00a0 There was also a Thiebaud \u201cPie\u201d painting.\u00a0 I love Thiebaud\u2019s work.<\/p>\n
While in the museum, we did a \u201cbench tour,\u201d something I have done with the kids since 2009.\u00a0 This time though, Jeffrey wasn\u2019t there, so this became the \u201cLonely Bench Tour 2014\u201d as Courtney posed alone.<\/p>\n
The Stanford Campus is really quite lovely.\u00a0 We walked through the old center section, to the bookstore, where I bought a shirt (Rose Bowl stuff was now on sale \u2013 they had just lost that game a few days ago), and then to the newer buildings and dorms.\u00a0 Our trip ended at the very closed Tourist Information Center right by the stadium and athletic grounds.<\/p>\n
Once out of there, we went to Castro Street in Mt. View to eat Thai food, and then Tapas food (yes, we had two lunches!).\u00a0 Both were excellent.\u00a0 After that, we came home and crashed, having walked around six miles.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
