On Wednesday, I got a call asking if I could substitute.\u00a0 I definitely said yes because up to this point, I had only subbed for three days and this was the fifth week of school!\u00a0 And so yesterday, I substituted for my friend whose father is dying of Cancer.\u00a0 During the day, I got a text asking me if I could do multiple days \u2013 his dad had died.\u00a0 I said yes.\u00a0 He met me after school to go over lesson plans for the next three days.\u00a0 My friend was happy that his dad died quickly, rather than something that was long and drawn-out.\u00a0 Now he had to do funeral arrangements and stuff.\u00a0 I now have his class until Monday.<\/p>\n
Well, today, I got a call from the district asking if I could do a long-term sub.\u00a0 When it rains it pours!\u00a0 Of course I said yes!\u00a0 I\u2019ll be teaching English and American Government for the next 60 days (at least).\u00a0 I was hoping that it was something other than American Government for the History side of things, but this is also a \u201cremedial\u201d class (SDAIE), so it should be pretty structured.\u00a0 The other four classes are (2) English \u2013 1, which is basic Freshman English, and (2) \u201cOral Composition,\u201d which is an elective speech and debate class.\u00a0 I get dropped into these five classes without any prep or lesson plans.\u00a0 I think it\u2019s going to be rough, but I will certainly learn a lot!<\/p>\n
Doing this long-term sub should befriend me to the district; the district I want to be in\u2026 and hopefully the High School as well.\u00a0 Should a job open up, I stand a much better chance of being considered if I do this job well.<\/p>\n
