I woke up this morning with a very sore throat.\u00a0 I do not want a cold right now, so I hit it with everything I had (vitamins, Zicam, aspirin, tea).\u00a0 By evening time, I was fine.\u00a0 Still, I\u2019m going to set up a humidifier tonight \u2013 the sore throat could have come from dry air caused by a change of weather.<\/p>\n
I started reading through an AP World History study guide.\u00a0 As I got into it though, I came to the realization that this was way different from what I had studied earlier on in the World History textbooks.\u00a0 AP is definitely college level, and college thinking in the way the material is presented (assessing, not rote).\u00a0 It assumes that you already know the material, now it\u2019s a matter of what to do with it.\u00a0 And while I intend to teach this way (which is why I want to teach AP History), it\u2019s not how the test is going to be.\u00a0 The test is based on California Standards, which is by in large, rote memory.\u00a0 Now that I\u2019ve wasted a day of study (at least as far as reading choices are concerned), I\u2019ll go back to the World History textbooks tomorrow and look through the California Standards at the beginning of the book \u2013 this is what will be on the test.<\/p>\n
By the way, the current college video lecture series that I\u2019m on, \u201cTurning Points in American History,\u201d is by far the best history \u201cclass\u201d I\u2019ve ever had.\u00a0 This guy, Dr. O\u2019Donnell, is awesome and I\u2019m learning a great deal as a result. I\u2019m looking forward to finishing this 48 lecture series right before the test.\u00a0 If I ever do teach US History, and I find myself sick or out of the classroom for some reason, I\u2019d likely tell the substitute to run one of these videos.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
